Isn’t online marketing like a dream job? It frees you from the traditional office grind that keeps you stuck all week, from dawn till dusk, leaving you exhausted to the point where you can’t find the energy to do anything else. Can you relate to this?
I’ve been there, too. First, I as an assistant professor in college and then as computer operator in a government. I’d come home so worn-out that all I wanted was to sleep until the next morning, just to wake up and do it all over again. The cycle was so draining that I had no energy left to plan for my future.
That’s the reality for most working folks. You realize you’re old, retired, and only have a few years left to tick off the things on your bucket list – things you could’ve done when you were younger, stronger, and more spirited.
Why not start setting aside an hour a day to learn about marketing? Find a course by someone you truly admire (hint, hint…me!) and devote some time to learn new things. Gradually increase that one hour to an hour and a half, and then two hours. You’ll feel a surge of energy that will leave you excited to head home and embark on your next adventure.
That’s exactly what I did. I nurtured my interest in online marketing day by day while working, obediently following someone else’s orders all day long. But finally, the day came when I freed myself from that place, to live life on my terms, to travel, to pursue my passions, and to spend time with loved ones.
Imagine the satisfaction of metaphorically kicking your boss’s butt when they ask you to do something and eagerly waiting for the day when you’ll be free from the shackles of a 9-to-5 job, with a thriving business of your own.
Start networking with other marketers on Facebook, observe what they do, and take notes like a professional spy. Create a work plan, identify what you need to learn, and set daily tasks for the whole month. Visualize where you want to be in a year’s time.
It’s not as hard as you think. That’s exactly what I did when I realized I could build a business on my own terms.
Start by carving out even just an hour from your day. Utilize the free time on your commute, breaks to study and work on your business. Stay hungry, stay driven, and stay consistent. The future will reward your efforts and success will welcome you with open arms.
